With over a billion active users per month, TikTok is one of the most popular platforms in the world. Now ByteDance, the Chinese company behind the social media app, wants to conquer the gaming sector. First tests are already underway. For example, TikTok users in Vietnam can play games via the platform, like the news service Reuters reported.
TikTok confirms to Reuters that tests with HTML5 games are underway. However, there were no comments on rumors that the feature would be rolled out in other regions of Southeast Asia in the third quarter of 2022. The first mini-games have also appeared in the USA. These include " Disco Loco 3D ," a music-dance game, and "Garden of Good," which involves planting vegetables to raise funds for the NGO Feeding America. According to Reuters, TikTok will primarily use ByteDance's game portfolio.
Techcrunch also reports that there should be the opportunity to play with streamers.
Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, has been able to play games since 2019. The global version supports live streams in the style of the game platform Twitch. The feature is used actively, as is the sharing of game clips. For 2022, experts expect TikTok's sales to triple to eleven billion US dollars. As the most popular medium in the world, games are the next logical step towards growth.
